In Nov. 2025, Ghana was hit by news of the deaths of six applicants who were present for a military screening of intakes at the El Wak Sports Stadium in Accra. In search of work, innocent souls lost their lives on the fateful day.
In a reaction, the government decided to decentralise the process, adding several additional venues to ensure the safety of applicants and officials conducting the screening.
Fast forward to a new year, a Facebook page, GF ICON, in a post shared a flyer claiming that over 60% of applicants tested in the military medical screening were found to be HIV positive.

As of Jan. 26, 2026, the post had garnered 801 likes, 342 comments, and 40 reshares.
“I tell you, my dear. It’s seriously disheartening to strain someone and later dump him or her like a used tissue. It speaks volumes of recklessness, inadequacy, and inefficiency,” Mathew Dary commented.
“Another way of disqualifying Aplicant,” another user, Kobby Sky, commented.
DUBAWA decided to investigate this claim to combat misinformation and disinformation associated with such security recruitment.
Verification
A keyword search revealed that Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General, Public Affairs, of the Ghana Armed Forces, stated in a presser that no such data exists.
In the presser released to editors on Jan. 25, 2026, Captain Arhin asked the public to ignore such posts and consider them as fake.
“Ghana Armed Forces wishes to state categorically that the publication is FAKE NEWS and should be ignored by all. The medical process is ongoing, and no results have been declared as of now. The general public is hereby informed that all efforts are underway to trace the originators of the mischievous story. The Ghana Armed Forces once again urges media practitioners, especially content creators and bloggers/vloggers, to be circumspect and cross-check their facts before going to press,” the presser stated.
In a similar post, TV3 Ghana shared the Ghana Armed Forces presser on its official social media page.
