Two separate Facebook posts sparked widespread excitement on social media after claiming that DSTV Ghana would slash its subscription prices starting Oct. 1, 2025.

One post by Bongo Ideas, published on Sept. 29, 2025, at 3:51 pm (GMT), alleged:

“SAM GEORGE has done it! From October 1, DSTV customers will see a 33-50% reduction in subscription costs. The premium bouquet, previously priced at GH₵650, will now be available for GH₵440. Nigeria decoders will be phased out. Dzata has delivered!”

The post quickly went viral, generating over 6,543 likes, 435 comments, and 73 shares by October 1.

Shortly after, another account, We Love Ghana, shared a similar message, claiming that subscription prices would drop by up to 50%, with the Premium package falling from GH₵650 to GH₵440. This second post also gained significant traction, recording over 3,345 likes, 554 comments, and 98 shares.

The viral claims sparked heated online debates. One user, Tony Ekow Mills, commented, “So, for those who were against the minister, are they going to enjoy this offer?”

Another, Neil Obrian, questioned the logic of the announcement, writing, “How is 33% to 50% added value a reduction?”

DUBAWA launched an investigation due to the claims’ virality and public interest.

Verification

DUBAWA’s findings showed that the claims were false. MultiChoice Ghana, the operator of DStv, will not reduce its subscription prices from October 1, 2025.

Instead, the company will offer more channels and upgraded packages at the same existing prices.

At a press briefing on Sept. 29, 2025, Minister Sam George confirmed the details of the new offer, following weeks of pressure on DStv to reduce its prices.

“Multichoice Africa has committed to implement an unprecedented increased in value offer only in Ghana, which will result in Ghanaian DStv subscribers getting more services for less,” he announced from minutes 5:05 to 7:12 of the YouTube video posted by Accra-based TV3.

The new package that Ghanaian DSTV customers will receive starting from Oct. 1, 2025.

According to the minister, subscribers on the Padii package, currently priced at GH₵59, will automatically be upgraded to the Second Bouquet, valued at GH₵99, which includes 35 additional channels, equivalent to a 40% value increase.

Similarly, customers on the Second Bouquet, currently priced at GH₵99, will be upgraded to the Family Bouquet, valued at GH₵190, which includes 19 additional channels and offers a 48% value savings.

Additionally, the Family Package, currently priced at GH₵190, will be upgraded to the Compact package at GH₵380, featuring 22 extra channels and live football access, representing a 50% increase in value.

Finally, Sam said that the Compact package, currently priced at GH₵380, will be “bumped up to Compact Plus (GHC500), offering 12 more channels and a 33% value boost.”

The Communications Minister had stated that the new upgrades will not last for three months, as speculated in the media. However, MultiChoice Ghana has clarified that the new experience will be reviewed in December 2025 to determine its viability.

“As contained in the said joint media statement regarding the value offering, the Committee will reconvene in three (3) months to evaluate the impact of this initiative. This will be a periodic exercise,” the DStv statement read.

The clarification statement MultiChoice Ghana issued.

Crucially, none of these upgrades involves a price reduction. All subscription fees remain unchanged, contradicting the viral claims of a 33-50% price cut.

Conclusion

The claim that MultiChoice Ghana will reduce its DStv subscription prices from Oct. 1, 2025, is false. While subscribers will receive enhanced value, including more channels and access to higher-tier packages, the actual prices will remain the same.
