A TikTok user, @mnkvc777, in a post claims Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland, has announced being transgender.
In the less than 25-second video, the TikTok user described the news as a “groundbreaking announcement” that has shocked the football world.
“Manchester City superstar, Erling Haaland, has shocked the football world by coming out as a trans. Delivering one of the most groundbreaking announcements in modern football history. The 24-year-old striker, long regarded as the most dominant goalscorer of his generation, released a personal statement early Wednesday confirming that she will now go by the name Erla Hallberg,” the video said.
As of November 26, 2025, the video had garnered 76,200 likes, 959 comments, 3,640 bookmarks, and 27,200 shares.
DUBAWA decided to verify the claim due to its popularity on TikTok.
Verification
DUBAWA observed that the video alleged that Haaland announced the shocking news on social media. We monitored the various official social media handles of the Norwegian and found no publication or post of him transitioning to transgender.
Additionally, with his fame and achievements in football, news of his transition to transgender status would have gained traction from globally recognised news outlets. However, as of the publication of this report, DUBAWA found no such publication by any credible media outlet.
Also, the claim alleged that Erling Haaland has adopted a new name, “Erla Hallberg.” DUBAWA conducted a Google search to determine whether it would be linked to the Manchester City striker.
Although the keyword search did not return any results for “Erla Hallberg,” DUBAWA found a link to a LinkedIn profile for“Ella Hallberg.” Ella is a student of international studies based in Washington, D.C., USA.
