Multiple award-winning musician Mohammed Ismail Sherif, popularly known as Black Sherif, is known for his peculiar style of music and dressing. Over the years, the rising star has dazzled his fans with unique appearance styles.

On April 25, 2024, social media posts claimed that Ghanaian musician ‘’Black Sherif’’ was captured in a video styled in an alien/robotic streetwear. The same video was also found on X, which can be seen here, here, here, and on YouTube here.

Likewise, a Facebook page named ‘’Codemicky page’’ also posted the video, with several other users wondering if it was the renowned musician. Others found it weird and asked the musician to seek help.

“Heeeeerr this guy is something else, but the good thing is that he is always on point ❤️🙏🤣,” Dokum B Kwame Collins commented.

“Human-robot 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂 the industry is turning our Ghanaian artists Into something else 🤣🤣😁😂 in the name of Idol fashion 😁,” another user, Ekomestudios Aryee, also commented.

“This is not a fashion. Things are getting out of hand; I think this guy needs help. Something is wrong,” Lloyd Bosompim Asare commented.

As of May 2, 2024, the post on Facebook had 1,100,000 plays, 37,000 reactions, 1,200 comments and 1,100 shares.

DUBAWA decided to investigate this claim because of its virality and potential to misinform.

Verification

DUBAWA conducted a keyframe analysis of the video to verify this claim using InVID. We then conducted a Google Reverse Image Search with the frames extracted. The Google Reverse Image Search led us to several posts on social media. However, we found an article by Yen.com indicating that the model in the robotic outfit video was Chiveskella, an international streetwear fashion designer.

We followed up and discovered that the video was posted by Chiveskella on April 13, 2024. Chiveskella is a streetwear fashion designer and a digital content creator. He has 56,300 followers and 1,889 streetwear clothing posts on Instagram.  A thorough review of his Instagram and Threads posts revealed that Chiveskella is noted to appear frequently in such streetwear fashion clothing.

We contacted Chiveskella to find out who modelled in the said video. Chiveskella responded that it couldn’t have been anyone else but himself because nobody has these outfits. He added that the grey bag, upcycled sneakers, and facemasks seen in the video were made in “single quantity” by him.

“Hello, it can simply be approved because I use these clothes on other videos, and nobody has these clothes because the grey bag, upcycled sneakers, and facemask were made in a single quantity,” he stated in his response to the researcher.

He added that he did not employ models for his streetwear yet. As a result, he styles them and takes the videos by himself.

Further, DUBAWA contacted the management of Black Sherif, but there was no response at the time of publication. Also, we observed that none of the musician’s social media accounts posted the video.
