A viral social media post claiming Burkina Faso’s leader, Ibrahim Traoré, has been arrested is gaining traction, with nearly 1,000 likes and thousands of views. The post, shared by the Facebook page Amazing TV Ghana, features images of the president in handcuffs being escorted by soldiers, alongside a teaser promising a “shocking” video reveal.
“Burkina Faso President, Ibrahim Traore’s Arrest: He Was Seen In Handcuffs, Video Will Shøck You. https://youtu.be/SxTJrufiwho,” the post said.
DUBAWA decided to fact-check the claim because, given Burkina Faso’s recent history of attempted coups, such a claim could easily trigger confusion, panic, or reinforce false narratives about instability in the country.
Verification
A close inspection of the image provided by Amazing TV Ghana reveals the tell-tale signs of AI generation.
To move beyond visual observation, we used the InVID Verification Plugin to perform a deep-level forensic scan.

Forensic filters prove that the image is a synthetic composite with mathematically verifiable pixel inconsistencies.
DUBAWA then checked with TruthScan; the image is AI-generated, with a 98% probability and a high confidence score.

We also analysed the image using ImageWhisperer, another AI detection tool. The generator diversity detector flagged strong AI patterns (99%).

Another tool designed to detect synthetic media, known as AIorNot, also flagged this frame as AI-generated.

There are no authentic photos or videos of this arrest from any reputable international news agency (such as the BBC, Al Jazeera, or Reuters).
The “Amazing TV Ghana” Strategy
This account uses “clickbait disinformation.” By creating a long YouTube video (14 minutes), they maximise ad revenue from viewers waiting for the “shocking” arrest footage that never actually appears in the video.
Conclusion
The image is 100% synthetic. President Ibrahim Traoré remains Burkina Faso’s leader and has not been taken into custody.
