Full Text

On June 10, 2025, Mäyø Clërk, an X user with over 5,400 followers, posted a photo of a highway illuminated with streetlights, captioning it, “Takoradi Aban papa aba.”

The post, shared at 9:03 PM, gained significant traction, amassing over 150.6K views, 350 retweets, 119 comments, 4,700 likes, and several bookmarks.

When user @chukwumacharl11 commented, “There is no road in Takoradi that is like this,” Mäyø Clërk doubled down, asserting it was the “Takoradi Axim road.”

The post sparked mixed reactions.

Some users praised the supposed infrastructure, attributing it to the previous Ghanaian government, while others questioned its authenticity, prompting DUBAWA to investigate and address potential misinformation.

Verification

DUBAWA conducted a reverse image search using Google to trace the photo’s origin. The investigation revealed the following:

Sokoto_Blog Instagram Post (May 31, 2025): The same image was shared by Sokoto_Blog, an Instagram account with over 407,000 followers, announcing the commissioning of a 30-kilometre stretch of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway by Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 31, 2025.

The post described the stretch at KM 8, Jakande Estate Area, as part of Phase I, Section I of the 700km project under Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at enhancing connectivity along the Lekki-Ajah corridor.

Social Media Corroboration: Multiple Facebook, Instagram, and Threads posts from late May to early June 2025 used the same image to highlight the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway commissioning, consistently linking it to Nigeria.

Agence Ecofin Report (June 1, 2025): A Cameroon/Switzerland-based outlet, Agence Ecofin, published an article on June 1, 2025, featuring the same photo to report the Nigerian government’s commissioning of the highway.

Additionally, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication/Spokesperson shared photos on May 31, 2025, on his X handle to corroborate the claim.

No evidence, including local reports or imagery, supports the existence of a similar highway in Takoradi or along the Takoradi Axim road in Ghana’s Western Region.

Conclusion

The viral photo Mäyø Clërk (@mayoclerk) shared on June 10, 2025, does not depict a highway in Takoradi, Ghana. It is an image of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in Nigeria, commissioned on May 31, 2025.
