Claim: A Facebook user has claimed that the King Charles III Commonwealth playlist did not include well-known Ghanaian musician Daddy Lumba.

Every musician dreams of people loving and patronising their music. The larger the number of people who play, the more popular the musician becomes, and in recent years, the more money they make.

In addition, the more popular a musician plays a particular song, the better it is for the composer. This adds a layer of credibility and ingenuity to the music, whether real or imagined.

This week, one of Ghana’s highlife legends, Charles Kwodwo Fosu, popularly referred to as Daddy Lumba, became a subject of discussion for all the right reasons.

On Commonwealth Day 2025, His Majesty King Charles III released a personally curated playlist to celebrate the cultural diversity of the Commonwealth nations. 

In a video trailer cited from the official page of the Royal Family, the King revealed ‘The King’s Music Room.’ He was photographed at Buckingham Palace for the music project, named the King’s Music Room, with an “on air” sign on the desk of the royal DJ.

However,  A Facebook user claimed that the King Charles III Commonwealth playlist did not include well-known Ghanaian musician Daddy Lumba. Given the potential confusion this claim is likely to make, DUBAWA decided to fact-check it.

Verification

DUBAWA examined the official playlist available on Apple Music to verify that Daddy Lumba’s “Mpempem Do Me” was included in the playlist. 

Further investigation into reputable news outlets reveals that King Charles III’s playlist includes a variety of songs from different genres and regions. The Guardian reports that the playlist features tracks like Bob Marley’s “Could You Be Loved,” performed by the King’s Guard, and other songs by artists such as Millie Small, Grace Jones, Michael Bublé, and Kylie Minogue.

King Charles III’s playlist, “The King’s Music Room,” was made available on Apple Music on March 10, 2025, coinciding with Commonwealth Day celebrations. The playlist reflects the King’s eclectic musical tastes and aims to honour the rich cultural tapestry of the Commonwealth nations. 

According to The Times, the playlist includes diverse artists and genres, showcasing the King’s genuine appreciation for music across different cultures.

The playlist features 17 tracks from various artists, including:

Daddy Lumba and ‘Mpempem Do Me’

Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, is a renowned Ghanaian musician for contributing to highlife music. His song “Mpempem Do Me” is a track from his album “Sika,” released in 1998. The song is available on various music platforms, including Spotify and YouTube.

Conclusion

Based on the available evidence from the official Apple Music platform and reputable news outlets, it is true that Daddy Lumba’s “Mpempem Do Me”  from the album “Sika” is included in King Charles III’s Commonwealth Day playlist.
