DUBAWA fact-checked this claim using data from the National Identification Authority, given the high interest in the SIM card registration exercise.
Verification
DUBAWA’s investigation found that, as of Oct. 30, 2026, 19,575,078 Ghanaians had been issued the Ghana Card.
According to the National Identification Authority (NIA), 20,610,948 people had enrolled for the card. Of this number, 20,478,619 cards had been printed, while 19,575,078 had been issued.
DUBAWA compared the NIA’s figures with Ghana’s population data from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS). The country’s population was 24,658,823 in 2010 and 30,832,019 in 2021. The GSS projects the population to reach 34,378,768 in 2026.

The comparison showed that the 19,575,078 cards issued represent approximately 63.49% of Ghana’s 2021 population of 30,832,019 and about 56.94% of the projected 2026 population of 34,378,768.
For comparison, 91% of the projected 2026 population is approximately 31,284,678 people. Similarly, 91% of the 2021 population represents approximately 28,057,137 people.
These figures are considerably higher than the NIA’s reported totals: 19,575,078 cards issued, 20,478,619 cards printed, and 20,610,948 Ghanaians enrolled.
Additionally, 91% of the 20,610,948 enrolled citizens is 18,755,962, which falls short of the 19,575,078 cards the NIA distributed as of Oct. 30, 2026.
