Claim: Several social media users suggested that Air Ghana is the new Ghanaian national airline.

Verdict: False. Although the Ministry of Transportation has initiated proceedings to select a potential private partner to establish a national airline, Air Ghana has not been named the official partner.

Several social media platforms and publications have highlighted Air Ghana’s acquisition of a Boeing 737 freighter and its addition to its fleet.
While many have praised the company’s efforts to promote cargo transport services in Ghana and West Africa, others have yielded to political games to score political points.
Several social media users have attributed Air Ghana’s expansion efforts to the State’s efforts to establish a new national airline.
“BREAKING: Air Ghana’s Boeing 737-400 freighter has just touched down in Ghana. Finally, President @JDMahama revives Ghana Airways,” @Popony_J posted on X.
“Ghana is finally taking shape! Air Ghana arrives at an aviation welcome today!! The change we made in 2024 is paying off greatly,” a Facebook user, Boniface Aberor Kwaku, posted.
Other users have posted suggesting that Air Ghana is replacing the defunct Ghana Airways, and have contemplated whether the acquisition is part of the government’s effort to revive a national airline.
“From Ghana Airways to Air Ghana,” @nyavorx posted on X with pictures of an old Ghana Airways aircraft and Air Ghana’s Boeing 737.

DUBAWA decided to probe further to clarify the issue.
Verification
DUBAWA’s checks reveal that Air Ghana was initially established in 1993 as an air logistics company by Marwan Traboulsi. Air Ghana expanded from just air logistics to ground handling, freighter operations, and general sales and service agent.
It is established that Air Ghana has operated for over 30 years. DUBAWA sought to determine whether recent reports indicate a partnership with the Government of Ghana to establish a new national airline.
Although the government has indicated plans for a private-public partnership to establish a new national airline, there has been no official communication that Air Ghana has been selected. Also, there is no publication indicating the government’s involvement in procuring Air Ghana’s Boeing 737.
Joseph Bukari Nikpe, minister for transport, in a presser on April 28, 2026, indicated that a dedicated task force has been established to find a private partner to establish a sustainable airline based in Accra. The three-round engagement discussions will see the selected strategic partner hold a majority “equity stake” in the new airline.

Depending on the fact that the deadline for submission of proposals by interested parties is May 29, 2026, it is too early to suggest that Air Ghana is the new national airline.
Conclusion
The claims suggesting that Air Ghana is the new national carrier are false. Although the Ministry of Transportation has initiated proceedings to select a strategic private airline partner, the selected entity has not yet been named.
