Claim: A post-boxing bout interview with Ghanaian boxer Seth Gyimah, has gone viral on social media after his defeat in a qualification match for the 2024 Olympic Games. In the video he says he doesn’t care about the outcome of the bout.
Verdict: This is false. The video is unrelated to the Olympic Games qualifier bout.
On Saturday, September 9, 2023, Ghanaian boxer Seth Gyimah, a.k.a. Freezy Macbones, suffered defeat at the hands of Senegal’s Seydou Konate in a qualification match for the 2024 Olympic Games.
The Senegalese boxer earned a unanimous 4-0 decision from the judges, dashing Seth Gyimah’s hopes of representing Ghana at the Olympic Games.
Following the defeat, some social media users shared a video of him expressing strong emotions.
“Whatever results happen there, I don’t care. I see myself as a winner no matter what,” the boxer told the interviewer.
Not only did the captions of these posts suggest that the video was related to his Olympic Qualifier bout, but the views expressed in the comment section of some of these posts give the impression of increasing believability.
DUBAWA decided to investigate this claim because it suggested the boxer did not care about his defeat in the qualifier to the Olympic Games 2024 despite showing a lot of promise.
In April 2023, Seth Gyimah rose to fame after defeating UK’s Darryl Sharp at the Copper Boxing Arena in London. He won with a unanimous judge’s decision. This match preceded the Joe Joyce vs Zhilei Zhang bout, which Queensberry Promotions staged.
After the bout, he narrated his journey to success in an interview. An excerpt of that interview is what has gone viral following his setback in the 2024 Olympic qualifier.
Furthermore, in the clip going viral, the logo of Queensberry Promotions can be seen at the bottom, confirming the source.
The viral clip is from Gyimah’s post-bout interview. It was after his April 2023 victory over Darryl Sharp at the Copper Boxing Arena in London, leading up to the Joe Joyce vs Zhilei Zhang bout.
