In preparation for the 2026 World Cup, several teams played friendlies to make them battle-ready. One of such matches was the game between Portugal and Nigeria, held on June 10, 2026, at the Estádio Dr Magalhães Pessoa.
The game had 21,049 in attendance. It ended with Portugal winning 2-1, with attacking statistics in favour of Portugal.
An X user, @oboo_emma_, shared a video suggesting a Nigerian goalkeeper celebrating after a save.
As of June 14, 2026, the post had garnered 2,200,000 views, 74,000 likes, and 3,100 reposts.
DUBAWA acknowledges that such football seasons come with sports misinformation and disinformation and decided to probe further.

DUBAWA’s checks reveal that the video is old. A Google reverse image search with keyframes obtained from InVidWeVerify revealed the video is from a June 26, 2014, World Cup fixture between Ghana and Portugal. The match, which took place at the Estadio Nacional Mane Garrincha, ended with Portugal winning 2-1 against Ghana.
DUBAWA’s check revealed that the footage is from a save by Fatau Dauda on a Cristiano Ronaldo header at 18:11 in the first half.
