A document purporting to be an official press release from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been circulating widely on social media.

The document claims that the party directed former Assin Central MP and former NPP presidential aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong, to retract comments he recently made regarding the Afari Military Hospital project and issue an apology to the party.

The claim emerged following remarks by Mr Agyapong urging NPP members to refrain from criticising the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the stalled hospital project.

According to him, the NPP had eight years in office but failed to complete the project, making it difficult for party members to fault the current administration, which has been in office for a considerably shorter period.

Shortly after videos of the remarks began circulating online, a purported press release allegedly issued by the NPP headquarters surfaced on social media, claiming that the party leadership had demanded that Mr Agyapong retract his comments and apologise.

The claim quickly gained traction across several social media platforms.

One of the most widely shared versions was posted by the Facebook page GH360 Official on June 16, 2026. At the time of DUBAWA’s review, the post had attracted 647 reactions, 688 comments and 87 shares.

Meanwhile, the same content was also shared in a Facebook group with approximately 154,500 members, significantly extending its reach.

Another Facebook page, Political Hazard, also circulated the claim under a “BREAKING NEWS” banner. That post had attracted 109 reactions, 73 comments, and 14 shares.

The viral claim generated intense discussion among social media users, with many expressing differing opinions about both the alleged statement and Mr Agyapong’s comments.

Some users appeared to believe the purported release and criticised Kennedy Agyapong for speaking publicly against a party he once sought to lead.

One commenter wrote: “Does Kennedy Agyapong see NPP leaders, executives, members, followers and sympathisers as human beings to attend to their call?”

Another stated: “The most lawless political party ever in the world. Full of confused people, corrupt to the core, unpatriotic, great liars and creativity.”

Others, however, defended the former MP and praised him for what they described as his honesty. Meanwhile, several users questioned the authenticity of the purported NPP statement.

The claim was further amplified through discussions on social media and by references made on some media platforms, including Power FM.

Given the potential of the claim to mislead the public, DUBAWA investigated its authenticity.

Verification

DUBAWA subjected the viral image to an AI-detection assessment using DeepAI’s image verification tool.

The assessment indicated a 96 per cent likelihood that the image had been generated using artificial intelligence rather than originating from an official source.

According to the assessment, the document displayed characteristics commonly associated with content generated by AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Grok.

Beyond the AI analysis, DUBAWA compared the viral document with authentic NPP press releases and identified several inconsistencies.

First, the purported statement lacked a reference number, a standard feature of official NPP communications.

The document also did not contain the distinctive red-coloured strip that typically appears at the bottom of official party press releases. Additionally, the contact details differed from those usually contained in official NPP communications.

The document also lacked an official signature or any other authentication feature commonly found on genuine party statements.

DUBAWA further reviewed the NPP’s official communication platforms and found no evidence that the party had issued a statement demanding an apology from Kennedy Agyapong.

A search of credible media reports also produced no evidence that such a statement had been officially released.

The absence of the statement from official NPP channels, coupled with the inconsistencies identified and the AI-detection findings, strongly indicates that the document was fabricated.

Conclusion

The viral claim that the New Patriotic Party demanded a retraction and apology from Kennedy Agyapong over his comments concerning the Afari Military Hospital project is false.
