Claim: A social media user, Abass Fuseini Sbaabe, has claimed that Mohammed Amadou Zakou is an aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Verdict: False! Although a leading figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) acknowledged Mohammed Amadou Zakou’s membership in the party, the office of Bawumia has denied his alleged position as an aide to the former Vice President.

A Facebook post by Abass Fuseini Sbaabe, a political commentator, claimed that Mohammed Amadou Zakou, who was recently arrested by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for spreading false information about Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, is an aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The post reads in part, “Unconfirmed reports suggest that an aide to Dr. Bawumia, Mohammed Amadou Zakou… has been apprehended by NIB operatives…”
The claim has since been amplified on social media by several users.
Verification
DUBAWA conducted checks to verify the claim that Mohammed Amadou Zakou is an aide to Dr. Bawumia. Kofi Tonto, a known aide to Dr. Bawumia, told DUBAWA that Zakou is “not an aide to the former vice president.” He categorically denied any formal association between Zakou and the office of the former Vice President.
Haruna Mohammed, the party’s deputy general secretary, also confirmed that while Zakou is a recognised NPP member, he is not and has never been an aide to Dr. Bawumia. Publicly available information about aides and associates of the former Vice President does not list Mohammed Zakou. No evidence supports that he held any official role in Bawumia’s office.
Additionally, in our effort to verify the basis of Zakou’s post, DUBAWA contacted him directly via text message to ask if he had any evidence to support the claim about the Vice President’s death. As of the time of publication, Zakou has not responded.
Zakou’s Own Profile
On his own Facebook page, Zakou does not list any position linking him directly to the Vice President’s office. His identity as an NPP activist appears to be based on party affiliation rather than an official appointment.
Conclusion
The claim that Mohammed Amadou Zakou is an aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is false. Verified sources within the NPP and Bawumia’s office have discredited this assertion.
