A Facebook post sighted online claims that Ghana’s Vice President, Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman, angrily left the set of Joy FM’s newsfile show.

The post did not present any details except a thumbnail with the title, “THE QUESTION THAT CAUSED JANE NAANA OPOKU-AGYEMANG TO LOSE HER TEMPER.”

The thumbnail featured an image purportedly showing the Vice President walking off the set of Joy FM’s “Newsfile” programme, while a person resembling Joy News presenter and lawyer Sampson Lardi Ayenini looked on.

The post, attributed to GhanaWeb via a web link (ghanaweb.com), garnered over 1,000 likes and more than 160 comments, indicating significant public reach and potential for misinformation.

Verification

DUBAWA’s verification began with detailed Google searches using keyword combinations including “Vice President,” “newsfile,” “Joy News,” and “Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang.” The results showed that, while the Vice President has been the subject of multiple discussions, such as here and here, since January 2025, when she was sworn into office, there was no record of her appearing on the show as a guest, let alone walking out on set.

An examination of the Facebook page that shared the post’s transparency information showed that “Channel Africa” is administered by accounts based in Lithuania. Although foreign administration alone does not automatically indicate wrongdoing, this is inconsistent with the page’s implied Ghanaian or African identity.

DUBAWA analysed the destination link and found that although it pointed to GhanaWeb, it redirected users to https://kikiclothing.com, a clothing brand based in Accra, Ghana, with no connection to the advertised content.

The use of a sensational title and an image of a well-known politician to attract clicks and redirect users to a landing page unrelated to the headline is a deceptive advertising technique known as “bait-and-switch.” This is a major red flag that indicates the claim is false.

DUBAWA has previously investigated claims with similar patterns of disinformation in Ghana, including this one, which used the image of renowned lawyer Tsikata to make claims about a purported new money-making scheme, and this one, which suggests Joy News is promoting a new mobile application from which some Ghanaians are making a lot of money.

Conclusion

There is no credible evidence that Ghana’s Vice President Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang appeared on Joy FM’s “Newsfile” or that any confrontation occurred that caused her to leave the set. The post is a deceptive advertising campaign using a fabricated rage-baiting thumbnail to generate engagement and redirect traffic to an unrelated website.
