On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, a flier went viral on Facebook and WhatsApp with the inscription; “Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo for President 2024.”

It suggested that the former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will contest as a flagbearer in the party’s upcoming presidential primaries.

This post received lots of reactions and comments. Some comments suggested Mr Ofosu-Ampofo was ready to contest, whilst others posted the same picture but with a fake logo embossed on it, as seen here and here. The mixed reactions from social media users necessitated a fact-check into the veracity of the issue.

The researcher visited Mr Ofosu-Ampofo’s official Facebook and Twitter pages to ascertain its truth. However, there were no such posts on those pages.

A Google reverse image search on the flier proves that; the image used was cropped from Mr Ofosu-Ampofo’s earlier flier used when he was campaigning to be retained as NDC National chairman in December 2022.

DUBAWA contacted Mr Ofosu-Ampofo to authenticate the content of the poster.

In a phone conversation with the fact-checker, Mr Ofosu-Ampofo debunked the assertion that he was contesting for the flagbearership slot. He also officially disassociates himself from the claim via Facebook.

Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo is not contesting the flagbearership race of the NDC.

The researcher produced this fact-check per the DUBAWA 2023 Kwame Karikari Fellowship in partnership with Avenor TV and Channel 7 7 Networks to facilitate the ethos of ‘’truth’’ in journalism and enhance media literacy in the country.
