An X user, @Kiss_Mequikk, has shared a video of a bridge under construction, claiming it shows the ongoing construction of the Dambai Bridge in the Oti Region.
In the caption accompanying the video, the user wrote:
“Dambai Bridge update: The 1,500-metre (1.5-km) bridge spanning the Oti Region at Dambai, constructed by Maripoma Enterprise Limited, is in full force. No delay. No compromise on quality, Minister Agbodza told the Dambai bridge contractor.”
The post, published on August 23, 2026, has garnered nearly 150,000 views. However, users in the comment section have expressed differing views about the exact location of the bridge shown in the video.
The video has also been published on Facebook by a user operating a page named NDC TV.
Against this backdrop, DUBAWA sought to verify the claim and determine the bridge’s actual location shown in the video.
Verification
Is the government constructing a bridge in Dambai, Oti Region?
Yes. DUBAWA found credible evidence that the government is constructing a bridge across the River Oti at Dambai. The project was officially announced in January 2026 and is expected to be completed in May 2029.
Is the video from Dambai?
No. Evidence gathered by DUBAWA shows that the video shared by the X user is not from Dambai. The footage is actually of the Buipe Bridge in the Savannah Region, where an existing bridge is already in operation alongside another bridge under construction.
To verify this, DUBAWA first realised the video itself contradicts the claim. It shows two bridges: one completed and in use, and another under construction. That landscape does not match Dambai. At the Dambai project site, there are currently no existing bridges across the River Oti. Instead, residents and commuters continue to rely on the Dambai ferry to cross the river while the new bridge is under construction.
More significantly, a video published on Facebook on August 4 confirms that the footage shared by the X user is from Buipe, not Dambai. The video shows an existing bridge in use alongside a second bridge still under construction.
On July 13, when the Ministry of Roads and Highways visited the Dambai project site, it shared images on its X account, confirming that ground works were still ongoing.

DUBAWA also contacted a local resident in the vicinity, whose Facebook page is Heart of Oti Region, to independently verify the video. In a WhatsApp interaction, he described the video as false. According to him, the only construction currently ongoing at the Dambai project is the installation of a temporary steel bridge, which will serve as a platform for constructing the permanent bridge.
Further evidence came from a video he shared with DUBAWA, which he recorded on August 17, 2026. The footage provides a more recent indication of the work currently underway at the site.

DUBAWA also spoke with Christopher Kevin Asima, one of the journalists who accompanied the Minister for Roads and Highways on an inspection tour of the Dambai bridge project a month ago. After reviewing the video, he described the claim as false.
According to Mr Asima, when the media team visited the project site in July 2026, contractors were still carrying out groundworks, and no bridge structure had been erected yet.
Conclusion
While the government is indeed constructing a new bridge across the River Oti at Dambai, the video shared by the X user does not show that project. Evidence from the location, recent footage, the Ministry of Roads and Highways, a resident, and a journalist who visited the Dambai site indicates that the video shows the Buipe Bridge project in the Savannah Region, where an existing bridge stands alongside another under construction. The video was therefore misattributed to the Dambai Bridge project.
