A photograph circulating widely on Facebook claims to show Wontumi standing chest-deep in floodwater while carrying harvested maize from a flooded farm.

The image surfaced amid renewed public interest in the NPP stalwart following reports of his legal challenges and discussions surrounding loans allegedly obtained from the Ghana Export-Import Bank (EXIM Bank) for agricultural ventures.

On June 16, 2026, a Facebook page known as Ghanaian Citizen TV, with more than 738,000 followers, shared the image with a caption suggesting it showed Wontumi on his flooded maize farm.

At the time of DUBAWA’s verification, the post had attracted 271 reactions, 34 comments and 10 shares.

The image appears to reinforce a narrative that Wontumi’s agricultural investments suffered significant losses due to flooding, an explanation that has featured prominently in public discussions about his farming activities and financial obligations.

Nonetheless, the post generated considerable engagement, with several users mocking the politician while others referenced his ongoing court cases. The image was also shared by other social media users and pages.

One Facebook account, Jennifer Oppong, with approximately 130,000 followers, reposted the image with the caption, “Who said tweaa?” The post attracted 129 reactions, 27 comments and four reposts.

Another account, Osei Kwadwo Ambassador, which has more than 131,000 followers, shared the image with the caption, “Herrr Ghana”. The post recorded 231 reactions, 11 comments and five reposts.

Given the image’s growing circulation and the potential for misinformation, DUBAWA investigated its authenticity.

Verification

DUBAWA analyzed the image using multiple artificial intelligence detection tools. The first analysis was conducted using Hive AI, a content-detection platform that identifies AI-generated media. The platform assessed the image as 99.9 per cent likely to be artificially generated and indicated a 98.2 per cent probability that it was created using a ChatGPT-related image generation model.

To independently verify the findings, DUBAWA analysed the image using DeepAI. The platform similarly concluded that the image was highly likely to be synthetic, assigning it a 93 per cent probability of being AI-generated with a confidence rating categorised as “High.”

Beyond the detection tools, DUBAWA searched Wontumi’s known official social media accounts and found no evidence that he had published or shared the image.

Further searches across credible news reports covering his agricultural investments, legal matters and alleged farming losses did not produce any authentic publication of the image.

A visual assessment of the image also revealed characteristics commonly associated with AI-generated content. While the image depicts a man resembling Chairman Wontumi standing in floodwater and carrying maize cobs, there is no verifiable information about its origin, location, photographer, or date of creation.

Importantly, no credible media organisation has reported the image as an authentic photograph documenting flood damage on any farm linked to Chairman Wontumi.

The image appears to have emerged online amid heightened discussion of allegations about loans obtained for agricultural projects and claims that flooding contributed to losses at a large-scale maize farm.

Taken together, the findings strongly suggest that the image is not a genuine photograph but rather an artificially generated representation designed to resemble Wontumi in a flooded maize field.

Conclusion

The viral image claiming to show Wontumi standing in a flooded maize farm is false. DUBAWA’s verification found strong evidence that the image was generated using artificial intelligence.
